More About NAFCOWhat is NAFCO?
NAFCO is an idea that originated from the Parent Governing Body of Hoërskool Ben Viljoen in Groblersdal. Due to the demand of meeting financial commitments, the Governing Body thought to utilise its resources in the in the Agricultural industry to generate funds for the school, in order for them to continually maintain the best possible standards and facilities for their students in their academic, cultural and sporting programs. NAFCO is a farming Conference and Expo with national speakers, workshops for various farming commodities and an exhibition centre of all products and suppliers related to the farming industry. The NAFCO expo also promises to be an ideal outing for the whole family as it will not only have numerous agricultural exhibitions, but also Art & Crafts, activities for children, entertainment and much, much more. The 3rd NAFCO will be held on the grounds of Hoërskool Ben Viljoen for 3 days, from 13 to 15 September 2012. The vision for this annual event aims to grow and become the biggest Agricultural expo in the Limpopo and Mpumalanga provinces. Groblersdal, is a farming town situated 32km North of the 178 million m³ Loskop Dam in the Sekhukhune District of Limpopo. The town is South Africa’s second largest irrigation settlement. In 1938 Groblersdal was laid out on the farm “Klipbank" taking advantage of the Loskop Dam, and named after the original owner WJ Grobler. The main crops in this manmade floodplain are cotton, tobacco, table grapes, citrus, fruit, maize, wheat, vegetables, sunflower seeds, lucerne and peaches spanning across more than 28 000 hectares of highly productive farmlands. With the combination of good water and soil conditions the areas gross turnover is calculated at approximately R1, 5 billion per annum. Groblersdal is also home to an abundance of game farms as well as being an ideal angling destination. What can be expected at NAFCO 2012?The Agricultural Conference is designed to be an information sharing platform with numerous speakers addressing the latest issues and opportunities around farming and agriculture in South Africa. Focus will be given on Citrus, Table Grapes & Livestock commodities. The agri-conference will be presented on the 13th of September (Thursday), with the focus of Livestock on the 14th of September, ending the day with music entertainment and fun for the whole family will be the order of the day on Saturday 15th Sept.
